Summer is typically the time of year when we visit some of those who are part of Back to Eden Group or they come and visit us in Kelowna. Recently we made the long drive down Interstate 5 (a.k.a. I5) and visited with some of our Oregon contingent. While we are a growing online community or electronic ekklesia, there is also no substitute for meeting face to face. One such person we visited is Canyon. You may have seen some of his comments on various posts on this site.
Canyon has given us permission to tell his story without reservation. We do so for only one reason – to provoke our readers to come together as a community and seek justice in his life. Canyon justice. It has a nice ring to it.
Simply put, Canyon is a young man in his early twenties who has been falsely accused of sexual assault of a young girl. His ex-girlfriend’s mother is responsible for the accusation as a fulfilment of a threat to ruin his life because of her disapproval of his relationship with her older daughter. The young girl supposedly assaulted is a 2 year old foster child within the same home. Canyon has been adamant of his innocence since the initial accusation. Many in his town, including others in the Oregon B2E Group community, believe him. We have corresponded with him for several months and visited him earlier in August. In the picture he is holding the young girl of a precious couple and our good friends in the B2E Group community. We and they believe him as well.
In Oregon, the law is written in the favour of the accuser and Canyon is effectively under house arrest with an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle to ensure he travels only between his home and work. He has been in this state for over a year which is obviously life impacting in so many ways. It is truly unfortunate that a law intended to protect the vulnerable from real abuse is itself being abused in this case. His lawyer has been trying to convince Canyon to plead guilty to lessen his sentence. Canyon refuses to do so because he knows he is innocent and is willing to risk a potential 30 year sentence.
Canyon’s trial begins next week. Our request is that when the earthly court is in session in Oregon that all of B2E Group call the heavenly court into session to render the King’s true justice in this case. Pray that all lying tongues be silenced and that the truth be revealed to all. This is our opportunity to do some serious Spirit business as a community of which Canyon is a part.
We know that B2E Group has many readers but not nearly as many participants (e.g. through comments or various B2E Group events). This is an opportunity to step in and be part of something special. You know what to do.
All prayers and words of encouragement on our site or Facebook page are welcome. Please let Canyon know he is not alone.
May the God of all justice defend the innocent and convict the guilty.
John and Katherine Matthews
P.S. Note that Canyon has given permission for us to publish any part of his story since he knows he is innocent. He is not afraid of the light. May we all be so courageous.
